Whom Jesus Loved
In the Bible, the gospel of John is widely assumed by biblical scholars and theologians to be written by John- son of Zebedee, Brother of James, and one of Jesus’s 12 disciples. However, what most people do not realize is throughout the gospel of John, he never refers to himself by name- the only claim to authorship is by the one whom Jesus loved. At first, this statement can appear to be selfish and prideful, but that is not the true meaning behind this phrase. The sole purpose of this is to sacrifice personal fame and greatness and to only be remembered by the love shared with between him and the Heavenly Father.
“He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.”
John 1:8
